Rowan Atkinson has just won a court battle against Associated
Newspapers for articles written in the Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday in December
'03 and January '04. The articles claimed that Atkinson was suffering with
depression and had to take time off acting to undergo 5 weeks of treatment and
recuperation in a U.S. clinic.
After the case, Atkinson’s lawyer stated that, "Mr Atkinson has never
suffered from depression, severe or otherwise. He has never had nor been on the
edge of a nervous breakdown."
Rowan Atkinson will be donating the "very substantial" five-figure settlement
to a mental health charity.
The solicitor for Associated Newspapers, said that they were sorry for
getting the articles wrong. Very substantially sorry, I'll
bet.
