David Jason, amongst others, has been given a new title as part of the
Queen's birthday honours list. He is now to be known as Sir David Jason. He is,
of course, best known for his role as Derek Trotter in Only Fools And Horses,
but has also appeared in Open All Hours, The Darling Buds of May and the police
drama Frost.
Terry Wogan has also been granted an honourary knighthood, but he will not be
known as Sir because he's an Irish citizen. Ah, the joys of the English honours
system. Mr Wogan is the most listened to radio voice in the UK with his BBC
Radio 2 show.
Other people in the sphere of comedy that have been honoured in this years
list include:
Dame Judi Dench, who has been made a Companion of Honour. Only 65 people in
the country can hold this title at any one time.
Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner have received CBEs. They are the founders of
Working Title, the film company behind Four Weddings And A Funeral, Notting Hill
and Bridget Jones's Diary.
Finally (on my list, there are many more) Stephanie Cole, the actress who
played Diana in the sitcom Waiting For God, has been made an OBE for services to
drama, elderly people and mental health charities.
Congratulations to all.
