The 2006 World Cup is looming, and with it the inevitable torrent of World
Cup songs vying to be the next "Three Lions" while assuring all who listen
of England's impending triumph.
Refreshingly comedian John Ryan (right) has taken a different approach to the whole "World Cup
Song" genre. Teaming up with fellow comic Steve Gribbin
to form "Him'n'im" they have recorded
a song that tells it like it is, and hopefully helps a good cause at the same
time.
Him'n'im take a more realistic approach with "We're gonna do quite well
(injury permitting)", an upbeat tune (with a great sticks-in-your-head
chorus) that thinks positive without putting the pressure on.
"I'm sick of the same old dirgey songs that come out every time," said Ryan
"They all build everyone's hopes up so high only to leave everyone feeling
misserable if we get knocked out."
The song is available to listen to online at the link below, from
where you'll also find a link to buy it. But fear not, you won't be financing a
pair of tickets to Germany. Half of any profits from sales will be donated
to The Orchid Cancer Appeal – a charity dedicated to funding research into the
diagnosis, prevention and treatment of prostate and testicular cancer, and to
promoting awareness of these previously neglected diseases.
Please try to think of this good cause and the honourable intentions of these
two well-meaning comedians before you lynch them for writing a fate tempting
song that includes a line requesting of Rooney "Please don't break your
metatarsal".
