The Queen's birthday Honours list has been announced, so here's another round
up of who can be slapping themselves on the back today.
Firstly, many congratulations to Gurinder Chadha, director of the wonderful
British comedy Bend It Like Beckham and Bhaji On The Beach. She gets an OBE.
All-round entertainer and author of the comedy songs Jake The Peg and The
Court of King Caractacus Rolf Harris, please step forward. You are now a
CBE.
Harris is actually celebrating a hat-trick, to use a football phrase as he
already has an OBE and an MBE. He said "It's just wonderful, it's a lovely
feeling. I'm still very much an Australian, but I've lived here for more than
half my life now and it's my adopted home."
Peter Lord and David Sproxton, for services to animation (and cheese), you
are now also both CBE's. Lord and Sproxton are the co-founders of Aardman
Animations, home of Wallace and Gromit and Creature Comforts, not to mention the
old favourite Morph. They were said to be "amazed and humbled" to have received
the awards.
