David Walliams has swum the Channel!
The UK comedy star entered the water at Shakespeare Beach in Dover at 5:30am
and swam the twenty-one miles to France in just over ten hours, arriving in
France around 4pm.
This is around four hours less than anticipated - great going.
The swim has so far raised about £400,000 for Sports Relief, and he's hoping
for another £100,000 to hit his target - donations can be made at
http://www.sportrelief.com/superswim.
Alternatively, for those of you that love to send text messages, you should
text DAVID to 82125 (texts cost £1 of which at least 70p goes directly to the
charity).
Fewer than 10% of people who have attempted to swim the Channel have
suceeded, and former Olympic modern pentathlete Greg Whyte, with whom Walliams
has been training, described it as "one of the toughest physical challenges on
the planet".
The full story of the swim will be shown on a BBC One documentary at 8pm on
Thursday 13th July.
