Comedy Returns to Radio 1

Radio1For the first time in seven years comedy will be returning to BBC Radio 1.  As a sure sign of getting old, I would under normal circumstances rather sever my own ears than listen to Radio 1, preferring Radio 4 and Radio 2 for my weekly radio comedy instalments.  But, in this instance I'm prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt (but only because I have a vague recollection of Mark and Lard being quite funny you understand).

The bad news is that you will have to stay up until 3am to listen to Radio 1's new comedy show, which has yet to be named.  It will feature some of the top names from the British stand-up circuit, and to fit into the station's output, the new hour-long show will feature music and comedy, with DJ Osymyso (whoever that is) mixing tracks (whatever that means) around the sketches.

A pilot for the show has been produced and is expected to air in late July or early August, featuring Tony Law, Mark Watson, Dan Antopolski, Russell Howard and Radio 4 sketch troupe The Consultants.

The show's producer Colin Anderson said: "We're hoping to help break lots of new talent as well as providing an exciting new output for more established comedians and writers."
