The towering 6' 7" figure of Colin Cole
walks on stage and up to the (now seemingly tiny) microphone stand. It barely seems
tall enough to pick up the sound of his dinner digesting, let alone his
voice.
"Everybody see me alright?" he asks in a laid back Australian accent and in
that instant the crowd are his. Unsurprisingly a lot of his act relates to
his size and he tells us of the daily torment of perfect strangers stopping him
in the street just to tell him he's tall.
On a few occasions you can see where the material is going before he
gets there, and a few of the subjects covered will be of little surprise to
regular comedy goers, but with his gentle-giant charm and superb
deadpan delivery it really doesn't seem to matter.
However, these minor niggles are the product of an
hours-later analysis and shouldn't detract from the fact that Cole is one of the
most enjoyable and charismatic acts that I have had the fortune to see in quite
some time. All the nitpicking you could muster would not change the fact
that the audience loved him and the cheers as he left the stage gave the act
that followed a lot to live up to. If the cheers get any louder then
headlining a show will be the only place you ever see Colin Cole!
