Londoner John Ryan is instantly at east with
a crowd. His relaxed manner is infectious and even the coldest of crowds couldn't
help but warm to him.
He may hail from Hackney, but there's nothing hackneyed
about his varied and original material (Groan. Sorry!). Whether drawing on
personal experiences, such as his upbringing by an Irish mother, or
offering sharp observations on subjects like text messaging, Ikea or even
NHS Direct, almost every punchline carries with it a lasting and memorable
image.
Finishing on a quick song, the whole performance appears effortless. Ryan genuinely
seems to be enjoying himself and, with such a great stage
presence and audience rapport, you can be sure he's not the only one.
