An impromptu reshuffle in the bill did not phase Pierre Hollins as
he stood there calmly smoking a cigarette (for effect) then idly and smoothly
integrating short riffs from his electric guitar into his set (his version of
the genesis of blues is a notion everyone can relate to as well as being a slice of excellent
guitarmanship).
He delivered a mixture of life
stories, observation, self-deprecation and had the pleasure/annoyance of having
to deal with a considerably belligerent (see: drunk) female heckler. She was
promptly taken care of with aplomb and acute professionalism; ie. Hollins put
her down without losing stride and everyone laughed at her expense. He
interspersed his set with snippets of outrageousness and had a most bizarre
finale involving an electric tennis racket.
Hollins is a truly brilliant
stand-up with the added bonus of originality in his effortless guitar
comedy.
