There is an air of apprehension
as Lee Bannard takes to the stage. He looks ill at ease which is not a promising
start for any comedian let alone an open spot where everyone expects (and
sometimes hopes) the act to die. Actually, he just looks plain ill. He is a
cross between Mackenzie Crook and Spud from Trainspotting; he
is skinny, he is pale and he is
odd.
Even though he looks furtive and uncomfortable,
the material is disjointed and he presents himself as a socially dysfunctional
misfit, his delivery is calm, carefully paced, assured and unexpectedly
very, very funny.
Recently, Bannard made it to this
year’s So You Think You’re Funny
finals and I predict he will be rapidly rising up the bill
listings.
