Dan Willis' stage presence is instantly laid back, chilled out and
indicative of a confident and experienced performer. As the evening's
compere he was met by a somewhat restrained crowd in serious need of being
coaxed out of their proverbial shells.
Willis was just the man for the job. His mixture of
shaggy dog stories, some local material and a shock-tactic approach to audience
interaction soon had everyone forgetting their inhibitions, except pehaps for
one lady who, while Willis was talking his way jovially around the audience,
whispered "I hope he doesn't do me!" and promptly hid behind a larger patron.
She needn't have worried. Even if his attention had turned to her nothing
that overstepped the bountries of good natured fun would have ensued, although
good taste might have received a slight elbow in the ribs.
Willis is obviously a natural when it comes to compering, and clearly enjoys
it. If his full act is to the same high standard then this is one reviewer who
definately wants to see it!
