Patrick Monahan effuses
confidence. He strides onto the stage like he owns the place then chats to the
audience as if he’s the compere and starts to build his set from this idle
banter and their responses. But he isn’t one of those comedians who sends out
leading questions just to ridicule the responder he actually listens to the
reply and makes something funny from it or leads it into a piece of his
material. With a diversely mixed heritage in his own life he has plenty of
source material to comfortably refer back to keep the set from drying up.
Generally, that’s it; Monahan just talks about ‘stuff’ but he’s got so
much energy and charisma that he’s one of those people/comedians who could get
away with reading from a telephone directory and still get
laughs.
