Zoe Lyons has already established
herself a formidable and respectable comedy CV by winning The Babycham Funny
Women Comedy Award and getting through to the finals of So You Think
You’re Funny (both in 2004)
so obviously she’s proved herself worthy of watching and with it still
being a male dominated industry, getting the chance to see an outstanding female
comedian is a real treat.
Lyons does not disappoint;
she’s more than comfortable with the stage, lights and audience and confident in
her abilities which allow her to just get on with being funny.
Her material is diverse; flitting from one subject to another without
breaking pace or making the set feel disjointed. From a frighteningly accurate
impression of Cherie Blair to inanities of everyday life she hits the right
comedic tone every time with easily identifiable targets and a no-nonsense
delivery that is neither alienating nor offensive (apart from those moments when
the shock value is most of the joke).
Lyons
is a far greater
comedian than many of her male contemporaries on the circuits and should be
around for a long time to come.
