To say that David Hadingham had a
relaxed attitude to his trade would be a slight understatement. Certainly his
comic abilities are unquestionably honed to the degree of second nature and his
experience has empowered him with an abundance of quality material that trips
from the tongue as effortlessly as Steven Hawking reciting the two-times table;
these alone would entitle him to be, at least, confident.
Then there’s the material itself. This covers all topics and does not
heed to any taboos or test the waters of his audience’s sensibilities before
diving in and all delivered with an evil glint in his eye and a devilish grin.
Hadingham is bad and doesn’t care.
It’s the combination of all of these elements that make him an
exceptional act so he could be excused a degree of overconfidence but to confess
to being half-cut during his set and actually asking the audience what material
he has already covered or not is almost inexcusable but if his wobbly demeanour
and ‘straight off the streets’ appearance just added extra weight to the entire
‘evil’ theme he had going and whether it was intentional or not is purely
semantics; he can get away with blatant unprofessionalism because Hadingham is an exceptional
act.
