Johnston & Johnston are an act who could potentially
terrify the more inebriated members of an audience into thinking that they
were seeing quadruple.
The twins introduced themselves with some twin related gags and then started
off with a cult of twins routine. It was an interesting idea that could
have developed into something more, but instead it was just an extended intro
for their first song.
"Give Em A Slap" was the name of the song and it was the
highlight of their set. The comedy, choosing famous people who deserve a slap, could be accused of being a little easy but was
saved by some popular celebrity choices.
Their other songs were of lesser quality, changing the
words of famous songs as you might hear in a school playground. Rather than using music to complement their comedy, as done
by the likes of Bill Bailey and Boothby Graffoe, they relied
on their songs too heavily with just a bit of banter in between.
If they can put together some stronger material, perhaps making more use of
the twins "gimmick", and can come across as a stand-up act who also do
songs, rather than a musical act who also tell jokes, then they could go
places.
