This may not have been a much hyped sequel to Analyze This, but with the same
high profile cast and similar ideas behind it, it manages to be enjoyable
without being particularly great.
Once again, De Niro's Paul Vitti finds himself in the care of Crystal's Ben
Sobel, after fooling the parole board by faking mental illness. They, of course,
fall for it and put him back in the care of the shrink that did such wonders
last time around. The same sort of gags are present here, with Crystal mostly
getting involved in a series of dodgy, ill thought out capers and De Niro being,
well, De Niro. Lisa Kudrow also returns as the wife of the psychiratrist,
looking not best pleased that he's got mixed up in all this again.
It's a good enough idea and a good enough cast to make this a watchable film,
but the fact that it goes over so much of the same ground as the first film does
take away from it.
Verdict:
It's not bad by any means, but the sameness is a
problem.
