I'd seen the trailer for this a couple of times and formed a reasonable
opinion of the film from it, as you do. I thought it would be pleasant enough,
some good lines, Hugh Grant would be quietly effective, and Sandra Bullock would
look nice, be funny enough not to annoy me and there'd be a happy ending.
Guess what? I was mostly right. However, one of my other predictions also
came true - there is too much time spent on the two leads, and the other
characters who could have benefitted the film so much more had they been a
little more fleshed out are sadly underused.
Bullock and Grant (now that sounds like a good name for a firm of lawyers)
are very good together. They have that great on screen relaxed feeling that is
so difficult to get, and it's a good thing they do, because in the hands of less
capable performers, this film could have been extremely poor.
Verdict:
Solid and enjoyable, if you like romantic comedies, but nothing
to worry about if you don't. 3/5
