Another year, another Red Dwarf series to
enjoy.
The regular cast members are all here, with familiar locations. The action
moves around a little more than before - Terrorform and Back To Reality take
place almost entirely off the ship, foreshadowing the change in style in Series
6. However, with The Inquisitor and Demons and Angels set entirely on board,
it's a pleasant variety of visual backgrounds.
The DVD extras are again complete. Cast commentary's on each episode, with a
bonus commentary for Back To Reality from the fans. A full documentary, deleted
scenes and Smeg Ups, plus an additional documentary on the American TV
series.
It reveals the details of the US pilot, the problems, the difficulties and
the differences between UK and US TV making policies. It's an interesting watch,
and shows up quite neatly the tensions between Robert Llewellyn and the others
as he was the only original cast member to make the move across.
The episodes, in order:
Holoship - a strange vessel, made entirely of light, visits the crew and
takes Rimmer away. He discovers it's a Holoshop, populated entirely by
Holograms, and decides he'll do whatever it takes to get on board. Guest
starring Jane Horrocks.
The Inquisitor - the crew are visited on board by a droid from the end of
time that has decided to elimante the unworthy from existence. He forces each of
the crew to 'justify themselves' before attempting to kill those who fail...
Terrorform - after an accident, Rimmer is left stranded on a Psy-Moon that
reshapes itself to his subconscious. He's in big trouble, and so are the rest of
the crew when they try to rescue him.
Quarantine - a personal favourite. Featuring the most dangerous puppet in the
universe, Mr Flibble. Rimmer contracts a holo-virus and goes quite, quite
mad.
Demons and Angels - Kryten invents a triplicator, but in yet another tragic
accident destorys Red Dwarf with it. However, from the ashes rises two versions,
one High, one Low. The High features the perfectly spiritual pinnacle of the
crew. The Low? You really don't want to go there...
Back To Reality - the last episode of the series could have been the last
ever episode, as the crew are killed on a water planet. They awake to discover
they have been playing Red Dwarf: The Total Immersion Video Game for four years.
Timothy Spall guest stars.
