Ah, the old favourite. A maid at a classy Manhatten hotel is trying on some
clothes of a much wealthier woman when a political hotshot walks in and falls
for her immediately. When will she reveal who she really is, and can this love
work? More importantly, can this old idea be worked through again?
The short answer is, no, not really. The performances aren't quite good
enough, Lopez manages to look far too pretty and 'star quality' to be a young
maid, and Fiennes is a little too old and a little too English for us to believe
the two of them would fall for each other. Plus, the comedy potential is very
underused.
In the words of the Empire review (the words you are unlikely to see quoted
on the poster, that is) "You can't help wondering what Hugh Grant, Sandra
Bullock and a team of decent joke writers would have done with it".
