I have something of a dilema. These days every time a switch on my
television set all I see is Linda Barker, in every advert, telling me to buy a
PC, or Washing Machine, or a Sofa, or doing something odd with scissors.
It's enough to drive anyone insane. I was starting to think
my only escape might be either seal my eye-lids shut with araldite, or sell
my television and move to Nepal to live a life on the lower mountain slopes as
a goat. But there is another option. If I was to purchase a new
DVD I could make non-Linda-Barker material appear on my television screen.
Problem solved. But which DVD? Well it just so happens that the
timing couldn't be better...
On the 17th November Johnny Vegas will be releasing a new DVD
and VHS Video. Vegas, who is probably best known for his appearance
alongside 'Monkey' in an advert for doom-laden television network ITV-Digital,
has been performing for live audiences for many years. Despite this
success this will in fact be his very first DVD and VHS Video. The DVD (or
Video, if you are poor, or like videos) goes by the truely comic title of
'Who's Ready for Ice Cream?' and will be available from
Universal Pictures UK Ltd. So what's it all about then...?
It appears that all of Johnny's recent trappings of fame have distanced him
from his roots and old comic magic, and there's a risk that the audiences
may abandon him. His common touch has been replaced with an overwhelming
desire to dine on swan.
So now, his manager has just one week to get Vegas back into shape. He
must be dragged back to the depths of emotional anguish and give the fans and
sponsors what they want to see... a loser!
And how can they send him crashing back to his rough and ready roots?
Simple. Take him to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and book him into some
of the worst, least forgiving venues in town, and give him a taste of what real
stand up audiences are like again. Put into a filthy flat-share with a
veteran comic with a lunatic reputation, things are made worse for Johnny by an
Ice Cream sponsor who is determined to get his money's worth.
We are told that the DVD will feature the best of three
live stand-up shows, filmed in Edinburgh and Glasgow, full of Johnny's trademark pathos and soul bearing
and involving his unsuspecting fans in some outrageous audience participation. It will also
features a host of extras including outtakes and behind the scenes
